Concrete, harmless first steps — including for everyone who has never done this.

• Test system first. Never a client's live site.
• Never your admin account: a separate user, few permissions, deleted afterwards.
• No real customer data. Test content is enough for everything you want to learn.
• Write down what you connected. In a year nobody will remember otherwise.
• At a client: contracts first, then the plug.

The measure is what the access would be capable of — not what you are doing with it.
